Saint Katharine Drexel Catholic School
Mission of the Learning Center:
The mission of the Learning Center is to educate the whole child by supporting the academic, social, and spiritual needs of all learners.
Coming Soon, Saint Katharine Drexel Catholic will fund its own Special Education Classroom which will be known as our Learning Center. The Learning Center will service students in grades K-8 with specific learning disabilities and diagnosis in the areas of English Language Arts and Mathematics. Students are identified for participation in this program based on multiple criteria. This includes: teacher and parent observations, classwork, a variety of informal and formal assessments, and standardized test scores. Students who qualify for this type of instruction will receive a modified curriculum which will benefit the students’ unique learning styles and differences.
Objectives of the Learning Center:
- Our Instructional Support Team will provide the framework and foundation for the program which consists of the principal, school counselor, learning specialist, teachers, students, and parents.
- Our IST’s primary goal is to address and resolve the issues of struggling students and is handled by a case by case protocol.
- The goal is for eligible students to receive specialized instruction in specific subject areas for a portion of the day within the Learning Center with the ultimate goal for each student to learn strategies to be able to simulate back into regular ed classroom
- Each student will have a Student Success Plan (SSP) specifically tailored to their educational goals.
