The Accardo family was looking for a school with a holistic approach when they were looking to make a move for their daughter, Bianca. The top items on their “must have” list: Catholic community, academic excellence, and social atmosphere. The Accardo family found all of the above at SKD!
“Transferring from a very small independent Catholic school, we found there to be many more social opportunities for students. As parents of a middle-schooler, we feel that socialization is an important aspect of high school preparation. SKD class sizes offer just enough for healthy socialization, yet the teacher is still able to differentiate and instruct to each student’s various learning needs,” Dr. Gina Accardo, Bianca’s mother said.
But comfortable class sizes aren’t all the Accardo family fell in love with. Dr. Accardo said their family chose SKD for “its mission and philosophy of Catholic Identity. As a Catholic family, it is important for us to raise our child in the Catholic faith and to be able to have the teachings of Christ’s Gospels be a central part of her day, every day, especially while she’s learning and in school.” She went on to say “[St. Katharine Drexel School] was awarded the 2018 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, this is ‘the most prestigious education award in the country, for its excellence in leadership, teaching, curriculum, student achievement, parent involvement, and community support.’ After our daughter had a shadow day, we knew that SKD was the perfect school for her to live her faith – both academically and spiritually.
We’re thrilled Bianca and her family found a second home in the SKD family. We’re confident we can be a perfect fit for your family too! So confident, in fact, that we’re offering you $1,500 to give us a try! Students transferring to SKD from a public, private non-Catholic, or charter school entering into grades 1-8 are eligible to receive our Tuition Transfer Grant. Through this program, we’ll give you a $1,000 grant to start and a $500 grant when you stay a second year.
Dr. Accardo had this advice to offer families considering a move to St. Katharine Drexel: “SKD is a very warm and welcoming community. The principal, administration, teachers, and staff are fantastic! They are always there to help when you need it. Every question that we had was always answered promptly and accurately. Our advice – never hesitate to contact Mr. Daniel Clifton (Director of Advancement) or Mrs. Kathleen Young in the Main Office – they will always point you in the right direction and guide you every step of the way!”
