SKD Alum Interviewed on Holy Spirit Radio 1570am
Seminarian and 2014 graduate of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic School Brandon Schmidt, was interviewed on 1570am Holy Spirit Radio. Brandon and his classmate, Bob, talked about the journey that landed them in the seminary and about fostering vocations.
In the interview, Brandon cites his time here at St. Katharine Drexel as a foundational experience that helped to form his faith. (22:22) “When I was in 6th grade, my parish school, Assumption BVM, closed and I moved to St. Katharine Drexel School. We consolidated schools and combined with the parish next door. At St. Katharine Drexel, we had a lot more spiritual exercises that, to be honest, I’ve never experienced up until then… I remember the first time praying during stations at St. Katharine Drexel, how much it meant to me and how powerful it was.” Brandon went on to say “We do a Passion Play at St. Katharine Drexel. Monsignor Marine from St. Bede the Venerable Parish runs it and… it isn’t a little play… it’s a huge performance with professional lights, sound, and practices for months… It brought a whole new perspective of my faith to me – reenacting the passion of our Lord… At this point, I’m realizing that maybe I was even starting to discern a vocation back then.”
Brandon also says that Fr. Bill, the late pastor of Assumption BVM and Fr. Mike Davis, the current pastor at ABVM, served as an inspiration for him. “[Fr. Mike] is such a hard worker and a great person to talk to… He’s someone I really admire for the way he works in the parish and how he knows everyone’s name in the parish. He’s very dedicated.”
