What Is Scrip?
Scrip is a term that means “substitute money”. Scrip fundraising gift cards are the same gift cards you would normally purchase from your local retail stores, and they work the same as cash. You’ll find cards you can use at grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants, movie theaters, home improvement stores, and many more! With every purchase, you earn credit for yourself and your parish.
How Does Scrip Work?
It’s fundraising while you shop. When you purchase scrip you receive a percentage of the discount, called credit, which translates to valuable tuition dollars. The credit that is earned can be used toward the tuition of any Catholic Education program, including, Pre-School, Kindergarten, Grammar School, High School, University, CCD, or SmartTuition. Anyone can purchase scrip and have it credited to your own account or the account of a relative or friend. The office will keep track of the amount of scrip you purchase and when you are ready to pay your tuition, you call the parish office and they calculate your scrip credit balance, which can then be applied to your tuition.
The Scrip Program will purchase large amounts of scrip from grocery stores, department stores, and other retailers. Because the scrip is purchased with cash up front, the participating retailers offer a substantial discount. Your church buys the scrip at a discount, and re-sells the certificates to families like yours for full face value. The discount – from two to fifteen percent or more – supports the parish.
We all have to buy groceries, clothes, and put gas in our cars, so scrip is a great way to save for your child’s education and support your parish while going through your normal routine!
